TuffCut

A video editor that understands what it is looking at. TuffCut reads your footage, remembers it, and handles the slow parts of editing so you can post without years of practice behind you.

Why we built it

We edit every day, so we have used most of the tools already out there. They are genuinely good at the mechanical side of the job: cutting, captioning, exporting, getting a file out the door.

Where they fall down is understanding. Most editors treat a video as a strip of frames and nothing more. They can move footage around, but they cannot tell you what is in it. So anything that needs real comprehension of what you shot still lands back on you.

That is the part we rebuilt. We reworked how the app analyses video, tuned the models sitting behind it, and changed the way we prompt them so the analysis is properly accurate instead of roughly right.

We also gave it a much longer memory. It holds context across a whole project rather than losing the thread between clips, which is the difference between something that works in a demo and something that works on a real edit.

What that gets you

It understands the footage

The app analyses what is actually in your video, so finding the right moment stops being a job you do by scrubbing a timeline.

It remembers

Context carries across the whole project. The app does not forget what you told it three clips ago, so you are not repeating yourself all afternoon.

No experience needed

If you can describe what you want, you can make it. The skill floor for decent video should be far lower than it currently is.

Who it is for

If you have never edited properly, TuffCut is meant to close the gap. You should be able to put something out that looks like the accounts you follow, without first learning a piece of professional software.

And if you already edit for a living, the aim is the opposite problem. You know exactly what you want. TuffCut is there to stop you spending your evenings doing the slow half of the job by hand.
